Program Information

Class Schedules

Below are links to MIT web pages that are useful.

  • WebSIS: a web-based student information system. Among other things, you can update your address information and view your grades via this system.
  • IS&T for new students – getting started: information regarding your athena account, duo-authentication, certificates, computers, etc.
  • For International Students – getting started: created by the International Students office, this website provides information specifically for new international students.
  • T-Pass Program: MIT offers students a monthly subsidized pass for the MBTA, the public transportation system. Please be advised that you must order your T-Pass one month and one day before September 1st (July 30th)
  • Payroll Direct Deposit: All graduate students with an MIT fellowship, research assistantship, or teaching assistantship will be paid monthly on the last business day of the month.  (First Payment September 29th) MIT requires that all students receive salary payments from the Institute by direct deposit. Direct deposit is a free service that automatically deposits your paycheck into an account at the financial institution of your choice.
  • Student Health Plan: learn more about the services your health plan provides. The department covers the cost of the MIT Student Extended Insurance Plan which provides further coverage, including prescriptions, off-campus specialty care, and hospitalization.  Reminder, Massachusetts law requires new MIT students to meet a number of medical requirements before registering for classes. If you haven’t done so already, access the form at (due July 29th): https://medical.mit.edu/medreport
  • ID Card: Incoming graduate students should visit the Atlas Service Center, 1st floor of building E17, after August 15th to receive a MIT ID card. You can upload photo at mycard.mit.edu before going to the Center.  This will make your visit much quicker.  You need to show a valid ID: passport, U.S. driver’s license, or U.S. government issued picture ID and they will print their card.
  • Office of the Dean for Graduate Education: an Institute-wide support and referral office for graduate students.
  • Graduate Student Orientation Schedule (tentative): the MIT Graduate Student Council plans and runs the new student orientation. Attendance is not mandatory, but many of the events are fun and a great way to meet people.
  • Off-Campus Housing: search for an apartment off-campus.
  • Academic calendar: plan your semester.
  • Campus Map: find your way around.
